Dear Haddon Township School District Community,
It is with great enthusiasm that I will begin my tenure as the superintendent for the Haddon Township School District effective August 1, 2020. I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself.
For the last six years, I have served as superintendent in Mantua Township, a Prekindergarten – 6th grade school district located 30 minutes south of Haddon Township. During my time in Mantua Township, I am most proud of the work completed around preschool expansion, a much-needed educational opportunity for our youngest learners. In addition, I take great pride in the wellness initiatives and community-wide character education programs established under my leadership. Most notably, Mantua Township received the highest honor as a 2018 National District of Character for providing leadership and advocacy to optimize success which leads to stronger communities.
Prior working in Mantua Township, I served at the New Jersey Department of Education where I was engaged in education reform initiatives. I was also a principal in Logan Township and I taught mathematics at Rosa International Middle School, an International Baccalaureate school in neighboring Cherry Hill Township. I found each of these unique work experiences to be exciting and fulfilling. They have prepared me to assume the responsibilities of the district's educational leader in Haddon Township.
In addition to my professional resume, I am husband to Jen and father to our children Michael (13) and Anna (12). I’m also an avid sports enthusiast and dedicated youth basketball coach.
A few of my core educational beliefs include:
- Maintaining strong parent, school, community, and organizational partnerships
- Delivering an academic curriculum characterized by high levels of relevance and a range of rigor
- Prioritizing student physical and psychological safety, with a lens on health and wellness
- Promoting the arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities as essential ingredients to educating the whole child
- Recognizing the unique strengths of every child to help them grow, build, and find their role in helping to create a bigger and better world
I would like to thank the Board of Education for placing their confidence and trust in me. Together, our first task will be to focus on planning for the safe return to school for students and staff in September. Beginning in July, I will work alongside Superintendent Edwards and the administrative team members to ensure a successful transition of leadership.
I am aware of the strong reputation of the Haddon Township School District and many of the excellent traditions and best educational practices. Thank you very much for welcoming me to the Haddon Township Community. I look forward to scheduling opportunities to meet you in-person or virtually this August. Details will be communicated as soon as they’re confirmed.
